Cinema or Film?
[edit]There are lots of kinds of film besides cinema - photographic film, plastic wrap film, thin oil films on water, thin film electronics, etc. There are not so many for cinema. I think Cinema should be the lead article, film should be a disambiguation page IMHO. Leonard G. 02:54, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

What should be added
[edit]Should there not simply be an additional entry here that is about a "cinema" in the sense of a place where people can go to watch films? Or have they gone out of date now? ACEOREVIVED (talk) 16:53, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
"Cinema"
[edit]The usage of "cinema" is under discussion, see talk:movie theater -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 05:49, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Cinema → Cinema (disambiguation) – then retarget redirect "Cinema" to the main topic, Film#Cinema, where this broad-concept is discussed. fgnievinski (talk) 18:28, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. Film#Cinema, as of this writing, is a two-sentence paragraph, not a broad-concept article. Filmmaking and Movie theater are both commonly known as "cinema", and there's no reason to put one as primary in front of the other. 162 etc. (talk) 21:37, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Comment See also Talk:Movie theater#Requested move 20 January 2016. 162 etc. (talk) 21:39, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per 162 etc. Cinema has multiple (related) meanings, several of which already have their own articles which are appropriately titled and catalogued at Cinema. The anchor at Film#Cinema is a brief description the term within the Film article; it is not a broad concept article on cinema in and of itself. The brief paragraph points to the existing articles Filmmaking, Film industry, and Movie theater. These are the same articles listed in the first section of Cinema. Readers are best served by the status quo where where all the topics that could be referred to as cinema are listed along with other topics with the same name and related terms.--MYCETEAE 🍄🟫—talk 23:19, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. The venue is just as notable. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:39, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
